FJØRA

A raw, rule-breaking artist who reaches far beyond contemporary genres for  inspiration, FJØRA grew up in Toronto, surrounded by the sounds of jazz, world  music, classical compositions, and Hollywood film scores.

FJØRA was born Alexandra Petkovski. Encouraged by her Macedonian father and Canadian mother to study music at an early age, she learned classical piano, then quickly expanded into the world of improvisational jazz. By her teens, she was writing original songs and touring America in a band with her two sisters. By her early 20s, she was scoring films and working her way towards her PhD at NYU's Steinhardt School of Music, having completed her Masters of Commercial Music in Composition and Arranging.

"For me, pop music is the synthesis of electronic and acoustic elements," she  says. "It's the marriage of technology and organic sound."

"My sound has been described as, 'if Ellie Goulding were creepy and Sia was  childlike. Honest, empowering, and more often than not, dramatic'"
